Cinderford Live
Cinderford Town Council has launched a live webcam of the town centre in a bid to increase interest in the town and improve safety. The webcam is mounted on the tower in the Triangle and has a view of a number of the shops. The camera will broadcast live 24 hours a day. The service will allow people who can’t visit the town centre to watch events like the Remembrance Day Parade, the turning on of the Christmas lights and CindyFest.
Cllr Mark Turner said “It’s another first for Cinderford out of the forest towns and highlights the quality of our wifi service that it connects to.” Cllr Chris Witham said “As well as providing a fun insight into what’s happening in the town, there is a more serious side to this project. The new system provides us with alerts that can help identify what time incidents occur and access the correct CCTV footage quickly for more detailed images”.
Cllr Turner has wanted to install a webcam in the town since before he was elected having seen other schemes elsewhere in the country. The purchase of the Triangle by Cinderford Town Council and the installation of the new Free Wifi network have made this a possibility.
The webcam was installed by Council Workmen, Scott and Ryan with assistance from Cllr Witham. The webcam is free to operate with no monthly fees.

still won’t replace police on patrol. Short sightedness on all sides.
Thank you for your comment, Lynn. Unfortunately, we can’t directly influence or pay for police patrols. This camera will however allow use to more quickly identify incidents in its view so that we can provide CCTV footage to help Police investigations without using up value police time screening lots of footage.
why do you need password
Hi Lynda, no password is required. You were shown a password screen due to an error with our provider this morning. All should be resolved now.
Oh dear This camera is missing in action
Looks like you have technical problems
Apologies for any inconvenience caused Edie. Our provider had some issues this morning. The webcam should be working again now.
Great news. Thanks for the reply
It’s not actually live though, the feed is about 30secs slower
It’s not actually a live feed though, its about 20 secs behind real time.
It’s great to see this in the town but should there not be a sign up or something to warn people that they are being watching as it’s not just for police viewing etc it’s for public viewing and it is decrimanation on people rights/privacy
Hi Claire, before the camera was put live, new signage was put up around the town to inform people.
I’ve not seen one clear sign in the town that says you are being filmed by all via a live feed
Hi Claire, here is one of the signs on the entrance to the Triangle.
Is this live feed not a breach of people’s rights as the camera is that clear you can zoom in on a person even a nuber plate I for one do need think this should be viewed by the public or has the above says sign’s should be put up
Hi Samantha, I am sorry you feel this way. Before setting up the camera we sought legal advice and the camera is legal. You can not make out people’s faces or number plates from the feed on our website. Members of the public cannot zoom the camera or control where it points.
Sorry but I can clearly zoom in via my phone an see faces and number plates I will indeed take this further has it is a breach of privacy
Hi Samantha, we have done testing and this facility is not available. If you have images that clearly show number plates or faces, we would appreciate you emailing them to the Clerk so that we can review these. The resolution from the camera and the distance it is from the road mean number plates can not be read.
Sent them via email
Thank you, we will review these tomorrow.
Hi Samantha, we’ve not received any photos by email. Could you check the address you sent them to and resend please?
