On 9th April 2022 Cinderford appointed their first Town Crier, Jer Holland was appointed as the first Town Crier in the Forest of Dean following a Competition run by the Cinderford Council Events Team. This Voluntary role was appointed with a view to the Town fully participating in the Queens Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022.
Jer has written a Cry for Cinderford Town which will be performed at upcoming appearances:
The Town Cry for Cinderford
Oyez oyez oyez
Ow bist thee old butty I welcome ye all,
Now pray silence for this crier’s call.
From a town between two rivers a land of emerald green,
Renowned for its beauty The Forest of Dean.
Suppliers of great oaks for the admiral’s fleet,
And providers of fuel from beneath our feet.
Retrieved by brave souls that showed no fear,
In woodlands of life wild boar and deer.
From the battles on our pitches Dockham Road, St Johns, The Causeway,
Remaining true to the Forest with the spirit in which we play.
So be not a stranger to Cinderford come visit explore our wares,
And join us for a jar or two but don’t mention who killed the bears!
