Flood Warnings

Cinderford Brook – Rapid Response Catchments

Following the Boscastle flooding in 2004 the Environment Agency undertook modelling of similar rainfall from that day, across the whole country.  As a result a number of areas have been identified that are at risk of a similar event occurring.

Drybrook, Cinderford Brook and Ruspidge have been named as one of these catchment areas.  The properties that would be affected have been notified and provided with the necessary information.  Due to the nature of this type of flooding there would be very little or no warning so it is very important that the local community are aware of this risk.

The Environment Agency have developed the below guidance for the residents/business owners to highlight the risk and provide advice on how to prepare for this type of flooding.

  • Cinderford Brook Rapid Response Catchment outline & properties
  • Cinderford RRC Newsletter 2019
  • Flood Action Guide – Cinderford

Since identifying Cinderford Brook as a rapid response catchment area, the environment agency have been working with the Forest of Dean District Council and other partners to plan for such an event and have written a response plan;

The Gloucestershire Prepared (www.glosprepared.co.uk) website provides information for communities on preparing for various emergencies.  They have developed a booklet for households with advice and guidance on how to prepare for emergencies – ‘Are you Ready Booklet’ (https://glosprepared.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Are-you-ready-booklet-Web-version.pdf)
