It has now been confirmed that there will be a by-election in the Cinderford East and Cinderford West wards.

Nominations for the by-election will open on 2 May 2018 and the deadline for nominations will be 16:00 on 10 May 2018. Nomination papers should be requested from Becky Powell – Electoral Services Officer at Forest of Dean District Council.

The by-election will take place on 7 June 2018 and formal notice of the by-election will be published before 1 May. We will display a copy of this as soon as we receive it.

At the April meeting of the full town council, Councillors voted not to have poll cards circulated for the election. This will save around £3,500 of Town Council funds. Costs for a by-election were not included in this year’s budget and so this is money that would have had to be taken from other services.

Postal votes will still be sent out to everyone who is registered to receive one.

The Town Council will still have to cover the costs of polling station venue hire and staffing along with the costs of sending out postal votes.

Chair of Cinderford Town Council, Chris Witham said “I’d encourage everyone in Cinderford to think about whether they could serve on the Town Council. It is a great opportunity to serve the community and have a positive impact on the town.”
