Climate and Ecology Bill – At its meeting on 14th November 2023 Cinderford Town Council signed up to support Zero Hour, the campaign for the Climate and Ecology Bill, formerly the CEE Bill. The Clerk of the Council has written to Zero Hour, the organisers of the cross-party campaign for the Climate and Ecology Bill expressing Cinderford Town Council’s support and also written to the Forest of Dean MP requesting his support of the Bill.
Climate Action Working Group – is an internal working group of councillors looking at the work of the council in relation to environment objectives to reduce the carbon footprint of the council and the town. Cinderford Town Council has committed to work towards becoming Carbon neutral and has received and planted trees, installed EV Charging points at the Belle Vue Centre, worked with Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust on the installation of rain gardens on Council property, banned single use plastic and glitter in The Wesley, installed solar Pv panels on the Wesley, Rheola House and 6 Market Street and when existing light bulbs fail within Council properties replaces these with LED lighting. Work is ongoing. Residents are welcome to join the Climate Action Working Group and should contact Councillors or the Clerk for more information.

Climate Adaptation & Resilience Project – the project, led by the Forest of Dean District Council, helped Cinderford Town Council explore what impact a rise in global temperatures could have on the Cinderford community. The Town Council were supported to develop action plans that pinpoint interventions that can be incorporated in their Neighbourhood Development Plans, regeneration plans and climate change strategies based on the risks identified. The plans focused on how land and the built environment can be adapted to protect local communities, businesses and wildlife and create neighbourhoods that are more resilient to the impacts of climate change. Two reports are attached. The District Council’s adaptation project received funding from the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund and was delivered in partnership with JBA Consulting which provided technical and facilitiation support. Copies of the two final reports are attached. These were received and considered by the Council at their meeting on 12th March 2024.
Display Energy Certificates & Recommendations Reports – In 2024 Cinderford Town Council commissioned Cotswold Energy Consultants Ltd to produce DECs. The purpose of DECs is to raise public awareness of energy use and to inform visitors to public buildings about the energy use of a building. DECs provide an energy rating of the building from A to G, where A is very efficient and G is the least efficient and are based on the actual amount of metered energy used by the building over the last 12 months within the validity period of the DEC. The advisory report contains recommendations for improving the energy performance of the building and will be used by the Town Council in identifying future changes to the building.
